Culture-led placemaking, Night-time economy, Strategy, Policy & Research In 2018 City People was commissioned by Transport for NSW to develop an arts and cultural framework for Circular Quay as part of the Circular Quay Renewal Strategic Framework. Our role involved strategy, project planning, place visioning, research and identification of the projects’ core themes and values. Through targeted consultation and analysis of the unique policies, interests and values embodied in the site, we developed a set of arts and cultural principles.
Strategy, Policy & Research In 2019, City People evaluated the impact of the Crown Resorts and Packer Family Foundations’ National Arts Fund, which aims to promote the accessibility and availability of the arts.
Strategy, Policy & Research City People supported Red Room Poetry to refocus its core activities and look for areas of growth to support a new direction. We worked with Red Room Poetry to inform their strategic plan, including understanding their strengths and opportunities for growth, designing a structure for the plan, a document review and presentation to the Board.
Strategy, Policy & Research City People supported Arab Theatre Studio to develop a strategic plan, including business planning, devising an organisational structure and identifying the studio’s short- and long-term objectives. We also provided mentorship over a sustained period as they implemented the business plan.
Strategy, Policy & Research Dance Makers Collective (DMC) is a Western Sydney-based dance company composed of independent dance artists making work both individually and collectively. City People was delighted to support Dance Makers Collective to undertake organisational and business planning in 2018–2019.
Culture-led placemaking, Strategy, Policy & Research City People supplied arts and cultural strategy and advice to Western Sydney Parklands Trust and the multidisciplinary design team who are delivering the strategic land-use framework for the Southern Parklands and a 5-year implementation plan for capital works and detailed design.
Culture-led placemaking, Strategy, Policy & Research While working as Creative Producer at UrbanGrowth NSW, City People’s Michael Cohen became aware of a massive gap in the knowledge base surrounding creative or ‘culture-led’ placemaking. While we know that adding to place identity with culture-led offerings (events, festivals, installations, cultural destinations) is a good thing, can we point to research that tangibly demonstrates the social and economic returns of this work?
Strategy, Policy & Research In 2015-2016 Kim Spinks, now director of City People, led the team which collaborated with NSW Health to develop New South Wales’ first ever arts and health framework. The Framework was released in 2016 and aims to improve the health of the community through integrating the arts into the design and delivery of health services and public health messaging.
