Dance Makers Collective (DMC) is a Western Sydney-based dance company composed of independent dance artists making work both individually and collectively. City People was delighted to support Dance Makers Collective to undertake organisational and business planning in 2018–2019.

Since its establishment in 2012, DMC has been making and presenting dance works in Western Sydney such as Big Dance in Small Chunks in 2013, a series of dance films published online called WEBISODES and a dance-theatre work, DADS. The piece has a growing professional and critical reputation, having been shortlisted for an Australian Dance Award in 2017.

As a consequence of receiving Western Sydney Making Spaces and Emerging Organisations funding, the group’s need for more permanent premises, as well as the shifting career trajectories of the group’s members, DMC required a more formal legal status and some forward planning. City People worked with DMC in a number of workshops to clarify its vision, understand its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges and identify practical steps to ensure its growth.
