About Us

At City People we believe inspiring people to connect with each other and the place in which they live, work or visit enriches their lives.

This is why we love creating arts experiences (from planning to implementation) that are imaginative, challenging, delightful or beautiful but most importantly, inspired by the specific community and place.

Are you interested in how arts and culture in our public spaces can shape our lives?
So are we.

When people are able to experience diverse cultural elements (from public art through to performance or artist-designed elements in shared spaces), they forge a connection to that place.

This creative placemaking is most powerful when the cultural elements represent the communities, physical character and the historical narratives (past and future) of the place.

We consider culture-led placemaking as a galvanising force in the forging of a place’s identity, and it is these experiences that create a well-loved place or destination for residents, workers or visitors.

In the last fifteen years, the City People team has been at the forefront in the strategy and implementation of culture-led placemaking in some of the most visited precincts in Australia.

Our services

We plan and implement arts and cultural programs that build stronger communities and better places.

Importantly, in recent years, City People has also led the development of evaluation methods that guide how this value can be measured and its benefits demonstrated.

This is our work and we love it:

  • Arts and cultural strategy
  • Culture-led placemaking
  • Arts programming, producing and creation
  • Project implementation

Having worked in the public sector, the private sector and in the arts and cultural sectors, we know also that there is a real need for people who can think on a broad strategic level, plan on a local informed level and implement projects at a fine detail level.

We have the skills, network and experience to work across this whole spectrum.

Government prequalification
City People is registered with a number of prequalification schemes, which enable us to undertake work with Government agencies and registered buyers. The NSW schemes include the Government Architect’s Strategy and Design Excellence Scheme, and the Performance and Management Services Scheme.

Supporting arts and cultural organisations
We’re also passionate about supporting arts and cultural organisations so if you are one and are looking for some assistance to grow please get in touch.  For example, our current arts partners are Dance Room Collective, Red Room Poetry and Arab Theatre Studio.

Making art projects in public spaces
Or if you are dreaming up a project, which could take place in public spaces and looking for collaborators, contact us; while we value strategy we still love making art.
