The Macquarie Park Innovation Precinct – Stage 1 Rezoning Proposal was recently released for exhibition by the NSW Government. City People worked in the multi-disciplinary team led by Allen Jack+Cottier Architects (AJC) and provided the Public Art and Culture Study to support the urban design framework, design guide and public domain masterplan.

As the November 2023 announcement by the NSW Department of Planning explains, the rezoning proposal:

  • envisions a lively community in one of Sydney’s biggest employment hubs.
  • would deliver 3,060 new homes, eight hectares of new public open space, a large multi-purpose indoor recreation facility, along with paths for walking and cycling.
  • includes mixed-use commercial and residential development along Shrimptons Creek, Lane Cove Road and Epping Road and the renewal of Waterloo Road.

  • Advise on the delivery of arts and cultural spaces and activated areas in the Stage 1 neighbourhoods.
  • Develop a full suite of creative placemaking opportunities across the three neighbourhoods to show the distinct character of each.
  • Establish directions for integrating Country and culture into the public domain.
