Nomanslanding was an art installation and performance created from an international partnership with curators and artists from five different countries which performed to over 27,000 people in Germany, Scotland and Australia.
In 2012 Michael Cohen initiated an international partnership with two other curators (Katja Aßmann and Lorenzo Mele) and artists from five different countries to create Nomanslanding. This was a five-year process from its inception to its final showing of the work in Glasgow during June 2017.
This project was initiated via an arts laboratory process called “Dirt Blood and Water” which brought together artists, urban planners, historians, maritime archaeologists and architects. The laboratory investigated ways in which the arts could be used to galvanise three cities’ connections to their respective waterways. Nomanslanding was the resulting joint $1.6 million co-commission that performed seasons in Germany, Scotland and Australia.
